God's Work - Our Hands

 The Council President's Pen

September, 2010

Greeting Peace family! I pray your summer has been a good one. Hard to believe it is over and we are heading into fall, football and holidays. It will be a busy time at church, home and work.

There are times when I wonder why I am where I am and what am I supposed to be doing here. But then, God does something that blows my socks off! Yesterday I was waiting on a customer wearing my Customer Service hat at Kohl’s. My customer was “grandmother” age (there was a matching man chasing a four year old in the toy section). She was bringing back maternity clothes. I said, “these aren’t needed anymore (thinking the baby was born)?” She said, “no, we lost the baby and my daughter didn’t want to see these when she came home from the hospital.”   We looked at each other and tears welled in our eyes. I went with my heart and held out my hands and asked if I could pray for her. All she did was bow her head and hold out both hands. I don’t remember the words I said and she probably doesn’t either. But I knew I was supposed to be at Kohl’s to meet that grandmother yesterday.

As you’ve probably heard, we are starting a new Bible study on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. It is The Lutheran Course. I am a convert from the Methodist church. It happened when I married Jack 46 years ago! I’ve been a Lutheran all this time (okay I’ll admit actively only 25 of those years) but I still learned a lot in our first lesson on Lutheranism (is that a word?). I hope you can sit in for a few of the lessons. The only blood that is spilled was Jesus’ and we learn what a gift that was for all of us!

Do you hear it? Jesus” sweet command saying “follow me” so you can see and experience great things! Go with your heart. You’ll always win!

Love to you all,

Kathy Smith
